With our latest creation, Zaworks takes you on an experience where the timeless charm of the Middle East is woven with a contemporary twist. Introducing Zima, an illusionistic artwork that seamlessly blends heritage architecture with a modern-day aesthetic. Here’s a glimpse into how we brought this unique concept to life.

Upon entering, you’re greeted by a wall that is inspired by the iconic architectural style of the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood. It highlights the structures of this centuries-old district, evoking the grandeur of Middle Eastern heritage, with wooden planks jutting from its sides, a reference to the traditional craftsmanship of the Emirati people. Carefully layered elements enrich the design, featuring details symbolic of Emirati culture and heritage: welcoming motifs inspired by palm trees, intricate Middle Eastern patterns on the windows and doors of mosque architecture, and a moon figure that further infuses the space with depth and cultural significance. Together, these traditional elements create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, bringing out the elegance of Middle Eastern heritage.

DESIGN

The Wall Mural for Zima consisted of numerous symbolic elements that capture Middle Eastern themes like ancient architectural arches, traditional motifs and intricate arabic designs. A minimalist grey-scale palette with a pop of peach completed this unique mural.

In perfect contrast, the other side of the wall reveals a modern reinterpretation of this heritage, where overlapping arches create a layered perspective that draws you in, offering the illusion of depth and dimension. This balance between ancient and modern aesthetics captures the spirit of traditional Arabic design with a sophisticated, contemporary touch. To reflect the essence of Middle Eastern landscapes, we incorporated rich brown and orange hues, resembling the desert sands, completed with a minimalist black-and-white palette, a signature feature of Zima that radiates simplicity and calm. A pop of peach color adds a fresh energy and brightness to the cool tones.

To complete the effect, we used dichroic films shaped like the monuments, which add a reflective quality to the artwork. This play of color and light changes as you move around, making the place feel alive, offering a new experience with each glance.
